The Wong Foundation
Entidad de la Holding Favorita Fruit Company
It was established in 1993
to manage and develop the social programs
of the Wong Group, and continues to be part of the Holding Favorita
Fruit Company.
Its mission is to promote
the physical, intellectual and spiritual growth of the children
and their communities, especially in rural areas; and to protect
the humid tropical rainforests of Ecuador.
The Foundation benefits
4,000 children in 34 schools, of which 16 are private and 15 are
public, having a positive impact on rural education, which continues
to grow. It also executes and supports other programs in general
education, health, religion and environmental conservation.
The Rio Palenque Science
Center was established in 1970 by the University of Miami and
acquired by the Wong Group in 1998.
It includes approximately
100 hectares of primary tropical rainforest, the only remaining
forest of its kind in the region, protected as an ecological reserve.
Thousands of rare species of fauna and flora have been identified,
including many that are specific to this forest. Plans are underway
to reactivate eco-tourism, scientific research and other programs
that sustain the rich biodiversity of the forest. The Rio Palenque
Science Center is managed by the Wong Foundation, which is responsible
to maintain and preserve this important ecological reserve.
